More and more states are starting to allow businesses to
open their doors with heavy restrictions and limitations. We will explore how businesses can utilize
these limited freedoms to survive, but before we give helpful tips we should
point out that the initial projections were wrong. In many cases, the government and mainstream
media has lied and this misinformation has caused fear among us. For example, in Texas, there have been 672
deaths attributed to the Coronavirus which is much lower than the 11,917 deaths
recorded during the 2017-2018 influenza season.
Economist are now saying that the current unemployment rate is second
only to that of the Great Depression of 1929 and without completely opening up
our economy we will surpass those numbers entering us into The 2nd
Great Depression. The cure cannot be worse than the disease.
Every decision throughout history that has been driven by
fear is wrong. A few examples that come
to mind are:
Segregation Now, Segregation
Tomorrow, Segregation Forever.
Alabama Governor George C. Wallace, in 1963 during his inaugural address
is remembered as one of the most vehement rallying cries against racial
equality in American history. This was a
time in America that our government said it was acceptable for those of color
to sit in the back of the bus, use separate restroom facilities, and have less
access to public schools and businesses all because of fear. How would integrating people of color into
white America negatively affect our culture?
Japanese Internment
Camps. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor during World War II, President
Franklin D. Roosevelt ordered 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry where 62% of
them were United States citizens into concentration camps. Around 80,000 people of Japanese ancestry
were second and third generation United States Citizens.
The Great Purge. From 1936 to 1938, Joseph Stalin and other
government officials created a campaign, much like the Nazi Party in Germany,
of political repression in the Soviet Union.
It involved a large scale repression of wealthy peasants, genocidal acts
against ethnic minorities, a purge of the Communist Party and government
officials, and the Red Army leadership, widespread police surveillance,
suspicion of saboteurs, counter-revolutionaries, imprisonment, and arbitrary
executions. The total number of deaths
due to Stalinist repression was well over 1 million citizens.
Cuba Punishes their
New Entrepreneurial Class. Cuban
ruler Raúl Castro, breaking his own promise to move ahead with economic reforms
“without haste but without pause,” has stopped issuing government licenses for
some of the more lucrative private businesses on the island such as private
restaurants and B&Bs. Other frozen occupations include services for home
repairs and electronic equipment, developers of applications for cell phones
and web pages, music teachers, education tutors and even blacksmiths. The Cuban government does not want a truly
successful entrepreneurial class operating on the island based on fear
according to experts.
US Department of the
Treasury Poisoned Alcohol. The 18th
Amendment, which took effect in January 1920, banned the manufacture, sale, and
transportation of alcohol — but not consumption. Despite the government's
efforts, alcoholism actually skyrocketed during the era. By mid-1927, the US government added much
deadlier chemicals — kerosene, chloroform, and acetone among those most
well-known — which made alcohol more difficult to render consumable again.
Adding 10% more methyl alcohol caused the worst effects. Despite New York City’s chief medical
examiner, Charles Norris trying to publicize the dangers, in 1926 the poisonous
alcohol killed 400 in the city and the following year another 700 died.
Tuskegee Study of
Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male.
The US Public Health Service lied about treating black men with syphilis
for more than 40 years. In 1932, the Public
Health Service collaborated with the Tuskegee Institute to record the history
of syphilis in the black male community, hoping to justify a treatment program. The study initially included 600 black men
where 399 had the disease and 201 did not.
The men were told they would receive treatment, however, the researchers
never provided adequate treatment for the disease. Even when penicillin became the preferred and
available treatment for syphilis, researchers kept their subjects in the dark. After public outrage in 1972, a government
advisory panel deemed the study “ethically irresponsible”. Only took 40 years!
Polio Vaccine
Contaminated with Cancer Causing Virus.
More than 100 million Americans received a polio vaccine contaminated
with a potentially cancer-causing virus from 1954 to 1961 according to the
American Journal of Cancer. Jonas Salk,
creator of the inactivated-polio vaccine, used cells from rhesus monkeys
infected with SV40, according to president of the National Vaccine Information
Center Barbara Fisher, who testified before the Subcommittee on Human Rights
and Wellness in the US House of Representatives on this matter in 2003, after
researching the situation for 10 years.
Operation Northwoods. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy and his Joint
Chiefs of Staff approved Operation Northwoods, a covert plan to create support
for a war in Cuba that would oust communist leader Fidel Castro. Declassified government documents show
considerations included: host funerals for "mock-victims,"
"start rumors (many)," and "blow up a U.S. ship in Guantanamo
Bay and blame Cuba." They even suggested somehow pinning John Glenn's
potential death, should his rocket explode, on communists in Cuba.
As the media and our politicians continue to make decisions
based on fear or the unknown, American citizens are left to recover from the
damage. Originally, the politicians,
mainstream media and medical community warned America that 2.2 million people
would die by the middle of April using Epidemiologist Neil Ferguson’s graph
based on 100% of the population getting the virus. The CDC is recommending medical examiners to
mark any deaths of individuals suspected of having symptoms that could be
related to COVID-19 as Coronavirus Cases which is only adding onto the fear. Thomas Jefferson once said, “When people fear their government, there
is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.”
